Our Principal
Peter Fam, our Principal lawyer, is a specialist in human rights law and civil litigation. Earlier in his career, when boundaries were cast around what Peter was allowed to do and say, he chose to create his own human rights practice so he would not have to compromise on his values. And so, Maat’s Method was born, and it remains the only human rights specialist law firm in Australia that does not receive or accept any Government funding in order to retain its independence.
Peter has worked on large-scale cases in Australia’s highest courts and in most jurisdictions primarily representing individuals and aligned organisations against Government departments and multinational corporations. Peter focuses primarily on claims against the police and government institutions, abuse law, discrimination law, AHPRA claims, employment law, administrative law, privacy law and other areas of civil litigation with a human rights focus. Peter also has particular expertise regarding the international human rights framework that Australia is a signatory to and he has made several applications to international courts and tribunals on behalf of individuals and groups of people whose fundamental human rights have been breached.
Peter is not just a human rights lawyer, but a Keeper and Protector of Ma’at (Truth). Drawing on the teachings of our ancestors, Peter’s vocation is to defend the principles and virtues that the human species has considered sacred for thousands of years.
Specialist Human Rights Lawyer In Australia
Human rights aren’t something which exist outside of us. They cannot legitimately be taken away from us. They are fundamental human dignities that exist by virtue of our humanity.
Most human societies before ours recognised that there were non-derogable principles that could not be diluted, distorted or damaged under any circumstances. From the Lore of the original tribal nations of the Australian continent to the 42 Laws of Ma’at of the Ancient Egyptians to the Natural Law that Greeks and Romans built their system of ethics and philosophy on top of; there are principles that underpin our existence here that human beings have held as sacred for thousands of years.
In modern society, the international human rights treaties and covenants, such as the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, enshrine those ancient principles, albeit in a diluted manner. Today, defending and advocating for those principles can be difficult because we live in societies that have forgotten how important and sacred they are.

Our Team
Sheri is our operations manager, and she does a great job keeping the ship on course. She is also Peter’s wife and the mother of their very cheeky children.
